Scott Monty - Strategic Communications & Leadership Advisor

It's not a typical question. But then again, Mitch Joel isn't your typical author.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Mitch for nearly a decade, and I've been constantly impressed with his prolific output, his thought leadership and his ability to ask some of the most insightful, probing questions.

Normally, this would be enough of a promo to get you interested enough to head over to Six Pixels of Separation to read his blog and listen to his weekly podcast. When you add in his history as a published author (and a good one at that) and a highly sought after speaker, it's no wonder why it was a pleasant surprise to welcome him to Dearborn earlier this week and to be able to sit down with him to discuss his new book Ctrl Alt Delete: Reboot Your Business. Reboot Your Life. Your Future Depends On It [affiliate link].

This new book is not your standard marketing book. It's certainly not a social media book. It's a book about life and practical matters with respect to business, marketing and how we all fit into the picture. And I don't say that lightly, as there are far too many books crowding the marketing and social media sections of the bookstores right now.

I decided to use the opportunity to interview Mitch via audio, because there's nothing like capturing exactly what someone says in their own words. And I think it's worth it to hear Mitch talk about his vision for the book, why he wrote it, who it's for, and how to prepare yourself for the future ahead. If you can make it through the first minute or so, the audio quality clears up and both Mitch and I hit our stride.

I'd be interested in hearing your feedback, either on the interview or on the book, if you happen to purchase it.

And as a bonus (I didn't realize I did this until I listened to the playback), I mention the term "youtility." Turns out it was buried in my subconscious, as I had an opportunity to read another great book recently: Youtility: Why Smart Marketing is About Help, Not Hype by Jay Baer. If you'd like to get a free excerpt of Jay's book, head over to http://youtilitybook.com.
